Deep Tissue Massage

This course provides students with the foundational knowledge and skills
for working with common injuries, pain, and physical dysfunctions. Heartwood
Deep Tissue entails specificity: knowing what to work, how to find it,
and how to work it effectively and comfortably. Therapists will refine
visual assessment and palpation skills, and learn to distinguish variations
in tissue texture. Topics include anatomy, kinesiology, self-care, musculoskeletal
injuries, and contraindications. Skills taught are appropriate for working
with physicians, chiropractors, or in other clinical settings.

Michael Drew, CMT became a Massage
Practitioner in 1988 after a short course of study in massage,
shiatsu and Watsu at Harbin Hot Springs School of Massage led
him to choose to deepen his studies. He then completed Heartwood's
Certified Massage Therapist and Transformational Therapist programs,
graduating in 1991 with over 1,000 hours of training in those
two programs. Michael has practiced for nearly twenty years, continuing
to study with the best in the field, taking hundreds of hours
of continuing education, and teaching classes of his own since
1992. Michael utilizes his expertise with a varied range of modalities
from deep tissue and orthopedic-oriented work to body/mind energy
balancing and emotional release-oriented bodywork. Michael has
also used his training in the subtler modalities such as lymphatic
drainage, cranio sacral, Reiki and Polarity Energy Balancing for
emotionally or physically fragile clients, such as those in hospice.
Michael's skills and knowledge-based approach to teaching ensures
that his students will leave with an understanding of the work
that prepares them to continue learning long after the class is
over. |
