Treatment of Orthopedic Injuries
for the Massage Therapist

with John Schmidt, P.T., A.T.C.

In our rapidly changing health care environment, massage therapists have become the providers of choice for increasing numbers of people. This course will give the massage therapist more confidence in treating clients’ injuries and interfacing with mainstream healthcare practitioners. It is essential for those working in more formal settings such as chiropractic offices, physical therapy clinics, and sports massage environments.

You will learn to:

Differentiate between disc, facet joint or sacroiliac involvement of the spine
Apply a more comprehensive and logical approach to using transverse friction massage, your most powerful tool
Determine whether nerve symptoms are due to compression near the spinal cord or in the extremities, or are referred from trigger points
Distinguish which tendon or ligament is injured and whether it is at the attachment or the musculotendonous junction, within the superficial or the deeper fibers

Work with post-surgical extremity injuries such as ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repairs, arthroscopic knee surgeries, etc.

Use pre and post-treatment assessment techniques to get immediate feedback for you and your clients

Work with acute and chronic conditions such as: rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis and golfer's elbow, cervical and lumbar disc problems, sacroiliac instabilities, patellofemoral syndrome in the knee, plantar fasciitis and others.

Participants should be experienced bodyworkers with a good knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology.

7 days, 50 hours. Tuition: $695 plus accommodations.
