(HWI's) Purpose, Values, and Mission Statement.
These help to define our overall reason for existence as an institute
and community:

Heartwood's Purpose is: Service is Love in Action
Values: this is 'how' we intend
to achieve our purpose.

Heartwood Institute is a holistic learning community that honors the
essence of each individual. Our mission is to help individuals fulfill
their dreams of a career with heart.

We neither invented these concepts nor set out to make them the basis of our culture. Instead, these core values have come into being over the twenty-five years of Heartwood's life, enriched by the intentions of our students, faculty and staff who came here to learn, work and share their lives. These values permeate the fabric of life at Heartwood. In the classrooms, meetings, personal relationships, work and play, they represent the way we are in the world. They are timeless and possess a changeless quality.
We support these values and intend to create practices and mechanisms that foster and enhance their existence here. Likewise, we seek to eliminate practices and mechanisms that mitigate or trivialize them.
These core values enrich our very lives and the lives of every person who comes here.
