Mountain MassageHeartwood Institute proudly presents its beginning level massage intensive that combines many complementary healing modalities taught at Heartwood.

This effective and enjoyable massage will help your clients with stress, fatigue, chronic tension and injury. You will learn to do a complete full-body massage with a focus on grounding and centering techniques to develop your sensitivity and intuition. Class time will include communication skills, a foundation of muscular/skeletal anatomy, meditation, relaxation, visualization, movement and self-care. Good body mechanics will help you enhance your energy and remain truly present while giving massage.

You may choose between two excellent instructors, each with years of experience, who bring their own style and focus to the classroom.

Amy’s focus is on incorporating bodymind integration & breath awareness into the massage setting. She explores how thoughts and feelings impact our ability to be happy, healthy beings, while utilizing massage as a tool for personal growth and transformation.

Joanna’s focus is on integrating energy balancing with soft tissue massage. She discusses basic energy theory, explains the relevance for massage professionals, and shares some simple energy techniques that are then incorporated into the massage.

This can be the beginning of a rewarding career in massage. Beginners are welcome, as well as those who have some experience and are interested in training to meet requirements for licensing. Learn a unique and special style of massage that will benefit everyone you touch.

14 days, 100 hours. Tuition: $1,295 plus accommodations.

Advanced Heartwood Massage

with Monica Perrier
June 7 - 13, 2008

Advanced Heartwood Massage takes you to a new level of massage practice technically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It is the natural next step after your introductory level massage training. You will be introduced to new techniques and approaches in bodywork.

This class is designed to draw out and enhance your best skills while you turn your weaknesses into strengths and avoid burnout. You will learn more efficient and effective ways to address your clients’ needs. The course includes movement and body awareness exercises, body and hand mechanics, palpation and assessment skills and therapist self-care. You will expand your knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology, learn basic lymphatic drainage techniques and side-lying positions for special applications such as pregnancy massage. You will be introduced to Hydrotherapy theory and practical applications with low cost, easily available equipment. You will learn to integrate these applications into your bodywork sessions to enhance the quality of your client care.

Participants will also learn some active resistive joint mobilizations called Muscle Energy Techniques. These techniques focus on common chronic tension areas, giving you a new way to address old challenges without additional hand and wrist stress. At the end of the intensive, you will know how to make the most out of your hands-on skills. Participants will receive a study guide on registration.

Prerequisite: 100 hours of training in soft tissue massage.

7 days, 50 hours. Tuition: $695 plus accommodations.
