Massage & Bodywork Therapist Program
The Massage and Bodywork Therapist Program (MBT) is designed specifically for those who desire the excellent training that Heartwood offers, but are unable to spend nine or twelve months in residence. This program offers you the opportunity to complete a 585-hour training by taking one or two week intensives over a one-to-two year period. This format allows students to study away from home for short periods with the teachers at Heartwood, and to then return home to complete additional practice hours and to integrate the knowledge they have learned. We have designed a series of intensives that provides the fundamental theory, science, professional development, and hands-on training that every therapist needs to practice professionally.

- Anatomy & Physiology For Bodyworkers, Part I - 50 hours

- HeartMind Shiatsu™ - 100 hours
- Professional Development Tutorial - 20 hours
- Externship - 15 hours
To begin the program, you will learn full-body, soft tissue therapeutic massage in the Heartwood Massage intensive.
Advanced
Heartwood Massage and Deep Tissue Therapy emphasize pain
relief, injury rehabilita-tion, assessment skills based on palpation,
muscle tests, range of motion and postural alignment.
Heartwood's intensives in Anatomy & Physiology for Bodyworkers gives the student a thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body with a focus on massage therapy applications.
Polarity Therapy: Energy Medicine emphasizes energy balancing and working with people to promote wellness by touching the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual being.
The HeartMind Shiatsu™ intensive explores the energetic system of the bodymindspirit through Japanese based bodywork methods and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), plus a study of the Five Element Theory of TCM, where the meridians are seen in light of their relationship to the primal forces that direct life energy throughout the natural world.
The Professional Development tutorial presents practical training in business skills, ethics, and the client-therapist relationship. This tutorial will consist of two hour classes taking place on one evening during each intensive.
An Externship under the supervision of a qualified massage therapist mentor in your home area will provide clinical practice to deepen and integrate your skills and complete the training.
