Shiatsu is a Japanese art with its roots in ancient Chinese medicine. Traditional Shiatsu is performed with the receiver lying on a futon mat, and the giver using pressure with the thumbs, elbows, knees, feet, and knuckles along the 12 meridians of Classical Chinese medicine.
In this workshop, students will learn:
• Traditional Chinese medical theory, including the concepts of Qi, Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and more;
• The 12 organ meridians of classical Asian healing;
• Shiatsu Kata (treatment sequences) in the seated, side lying, face down, and face up positions;
• Makko Ho meridian yoga and qigong exercises for developing the vital energy.

Christien Real has been practicing qi cultivation for the past 15 years. He is a trained practitioner in the Zen Shiatsu lineage as well as a teacher for the last four years. Christien has widely studied Asian health arts and trained with many master teachers. He is certified to teach qigong through the Daoist Medical Qigong center, taiji and qigong through the Lohan School of Shaolin, is an Associate Instructor of Mantak Chia's Healing Tao, and is a Practitioner of Medical Qigong. Christien's goals as a teacher are to continually grow through study of the classic texts of Daoism and Asian medicine while incorporating modern findings and finding applications to modern life. |
