Community at Heartwood
Heartwood
Institute is a holistic learning community that honors the essence of
each individual. As a private residential vocational school, we offer
a unique community experience for students and staff. Living, working
and studying at Heartwood provides an experience of interdependence,
mutual respect, integrity and responsibility through living together
in community. Located on 200 acres in a beautiful mountainous rural
area, the dedicated individuals at Heartwood present quality vocational
training in massage therapy and the Healing Arts within a framework
of environmental responsibility.
Our delicious wholesome meals are an integral part of the Heartwood experience. The kitchen staff prepares our food with conscious intention and uses organically grown foods to prepare our mostly vegetarian meals.
You
can be a member of the Heartwood community as a student (see Massage
and Bodywork Programs, Advanced
Studies & Intensives and Asian
Bodywork & Nutrition Programs), a salaried staff (see Employment
Opportunities) or a Work Study Program
Student. Staff members receive room and board, small salary and
educational opportunities. Work Study students are enrolled in the 100-hour
(six months) Heartwood Massage Certification training and exchange work
hours to cover a portion of tuition and room and board costs.
We view ourselves as a person-centered organization. The organizational structure is hierarchal with decisions made by teams with specific operational responsibilities.
