Facilities and Equipment
Our
community center at Heartwood is a picturesque log lodge with a spacious
deck where meals are taken in nice weather. A cozy dining room makes
the lodge a warm place for gatherings. Outdoor hot tub, wood-fired sauna
and large pool are important recreational facilities. Student rooms
are cozy dormitory-style with bunks. Bathrooms are shared. Campsites
are tucked among the trees. Flowers and gardens add a wonderful dimension
of color and freshness. In the community kitchen, students and staff
can prepare and store their own snacks. Private treatment rooms provide
professional space for student bodywork sessions and therapeutic sessions
given by the staff.
Classrooms
are attractive and comfortable. Large bodywork classes, movement and
yoga classes, concerts and dances are held on the second floor of a
converted barn overlooking the valley. Sunrise, another large classroom,
opens to the east with views of mountain vistas. A classroom named the
Kiva opens to a lovely garden. Classroom equipment includes tables,
chairs and seat backs, massage tables and head rests, Shiatsu mats,
audiovisual aids, full scale skeletons, anatomical charts and chalkboards.
The library/study hall, upstairs in the lodge, is always open for student
use.
The
Heartwood Welcome Center provides guest services and sells massage tables
and equipment, books and tapes, snack items, health care products, gifts
and souvenirs. Our meditation temple provides a sanctuary for quiet
reflection.
Coin-operated laundry machines which use quarters are available except during summer when sufficient water may not be available. Please, only biodegradable and phosphate-free laundry detergents may be used because of our commitment to the land and water.
