Recreational Opportunities
There
are many opportunities at Heartwood to enjoy friendship and fun. Small
groups are often found at the sauna and hot tub in the evenings watching
the moon and stars. A walk in the woods is a special treat. Mountain
biking is an energetic challenge. Dances, talent shows and rituals bring
the entire community together.
California's North Coast is one of the most beautiful vacation lands in America. Heartwood Institute is two hours from the Sinkyone Wilderness State Preserve with its majestic coastline, forests, black sand beaches, mountain trails and camp sites. The magnificent Humboldt Redwoods are within an hour of campus. Garberville and Redway offer shops, restaurants and many village attractions. There are the towns of Eureka and Arcata to the north for those who enjoy urban experiences. Arcata is the home of Humboldt State University. San Francisco is five hours to the south.
The Humboldt County Convention & Visitors Bureau website contains a wealth of information about our area ranging from redwoods to outdoors to attractions, dining, lodging and events. This is the area the USDA declared to be "America's Most Scenic Rural County," and National Geographic Traveler magazine named "One of the world's top 10 great places."
