At Heartwood, we live our dream of a better world.
Our
campus is set on 200 acres in the mountains of California's North Coast.
It is rustic, serene and beautiful with magnificent vistas to inspire
the heart. A bench mark on the campus gives the elevation as 1,935 feet.
The narrow, winding mountain road providing access to Heartwood Institute
goes above 3,000 feet. Our campus contains forests of Douglas fir, oak,
buckeye, madrone, manzanita and California bay laurel. There are also
rolling meadows covered with wild flowers between March and June. Deer,
feral pigs, silver and red fox, bobtail cat and raccoon are the primary
wildlife. Redtail hawk, wild turkey, owl and redheaded woodpecker are
frequent visitors.
The seasons are evident on our mountain, though the coastal influence moderates the weather. It rains a great deal in the winter, but snow and freezing are infrequent. Rainbows are plentiful. The summers are very dry with sunny days and cool nights.
