Deep Tissue Massage addresses chronic tension and emotional trauma that is often stored in the body. You will learn how to help people with posture problems, common injuries and painful joints. Releasing deep-seated tension requires keen sensitivity to both the physical and the emotional nature of soft-tissue distress.

This class creates a safe, structured environment in which you can develop your intuitive sense, detect stiff or painful areas, and learn to notice changes in the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature. Specific hand positions and strokes designed to respond to various tissue qualities will be taught to enhance the effectiveness of this work. The class follows a regional approach to the body with a particular focus on identifying specific muscles, muscle groups and bony landmarks. This class includes a weekly, supervised practice session as well as daily hands-on practice giving and receiving the work in class.

Polarity therapyPolarity Therapy is a holistic healing art providing experiential education for the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels of being. Students learn bodywork techniques and protocol for five sessions designed to resolve energy blocks, clear emotional trauma, balance, and harmonize energy pathways, and attune one’s connection with Spirit. You will study energy theories, diet and health building techniques. Unique to Heartwood’s residential program is the opportunity for improving health with energy exercises and daily meditation, while receiving and giving this profound transformational work.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that directly influences the brain and spinal cord. It is used to find and release areas of restriction, re-educate old holding patterns, calm over-stressed systems and over-stimulated nerves, support emotional clearing, and is an excellent tool for personal growth. Students gain heightened sensation and perception, self-awareness, and specific skills for listening, tracking and interpreting cranial rhythms as they reverberate through the body. You will learn cranial and spinal anatomy and step-by-step sequences.

Healing HandsA thorough understanding of anatomical structure and its physiological functioning is a basic requirement for all health care professionals. You will find learning easy and exciting in our six-course, 150-hour Human Sciences curriculum, as you use your vision, hearing, hands-on and internal experience to discover the human body in all its beauty and mystery. Our anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology classes are tailored to massage and bodywork applications. This knowledge and understanding of the body will assist you in building your effectiveness as a therapist.

Our Professional Development classes train you to market your services, build your own practice and find your perfect work situation. You will learn practical, tried-and-true methods for creating success, prosperity, and the career you want. You will also learn client care and professional service.
